Privacy Policy

Sego exists to introduce people, so it necessarily handles personal information. This policy explains what we collect, why, who sees it, and the choices you have. We do not sell your data and we do not share your profile with advertisers.

What we collect

  • Account: email address, sign-in codes and session records, and (if you use it) your Google account identifier.
  • Profile: first name, birthdate (only your age is shown), gender, city and state, photos, prompt answers, and your answers to Sego Questions, including what you are hoping for in a spouse and how much each matters.
  • Sensitive information you choose to share: Sego is for single Latter-day Saints, and several questions concern religious practice (for example church attendance or temple recommend status). This is sensitive personal information under several state laws. We collect it only with your explicit consent, given when you create your account, and use it only to show you people who fit and to show your profile to them. You can answer “Prefer not to say” to any optional question, mark answers as used for matching only, or withdraw consent by deleting your account.
  • Location: the city you choose and, if you turn it on, your device’s approximate coordinates, used only to measure distance. Other members see your city and a rounded distance, never coordinates.
  • Verification: a selfie you take for verification, compared to your photos by our team and deleted within 7 days of a decision. If you choose an ID check, our provider handles your document and we store only the result and date.
  • Activity: likes, passes, matches, messages, gatherings you host or RSVP to, reports you file, and technical data such as IP address, device type, and a device fingerprint used to prevent duplicate accounts and abuse.
  • Payments: handled by our payment provider (Stripe). We receive your subscription status and the last four digits of your card; we never store full card numbers.

How we use it

  • To run Sego: show you compatible people, apply your filters in both directions, deliver messages, and run gatherings.
  • To keep the community safe: verification, photo moderation, scam detection in early messages, reviewing reports, and preventing banned members from returning.
  • To communicate with you: sign-in codes, match and message notifications, gathering reminders, and receipts. You control non-essential notifications in Settings and can unsubscribe from any email.
  • To understand and improve the product using aggregate analytics. We do not record your screen or your messages for analytics.
  • To comply with law and enforce our terms.

Who sees your information

  • Other members see your profile as you configure it: name, age, city, photos, prompts, badges, and the answers you make public (or matches-only after a match). Answers marked “matching only” are never shown. People who don’t pass your dealbreakers don’t see you at all.
  • Service providers who process data on our behalf under contract: hosting and database (Railway), file storage, email delivery (Resend), payments (Stripe), bot protection (Cloudflare), photo moderation (OpenAI moderation API), and identity verification providers you choose to use.
  • Law enforcement or others when required by law, to protect someone’s safety, or to enforce our terms.

We do not sell personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or run third-party advertising on Sego.

How long we keep it

Your profile and messages are kept while your account is active. When you delete your account, your profile, photos, likes, matches, and messages are removed within 30 days; messages you sent are anonymized in the other person’s conversation. Verification selfies are deleted within 7 days of review. We keep records needed for safety (reports, bans) and for legal or accounting purposes for as long as required.

Your rights and choices

  • Edit or delete your profile, photos, prompts, and answers at any time in Settings.
  • Delete your account from Settings; everything above happens automatically.
  • Request a copy of your data, or a correction, by emailing [email protected] from your account email. We respond within 45 days.
  • Control notifications in Settings and through the unsubscribe link in every non-essential email.
  • Residents of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Virginia and other states with privacy laws have rights to access, correct, delete, and port their data, and to opt out of sale or targeted advertising (which we do not do). Exercise them at [email protected]. We will not discriminate against you for doing so. If we decline a request you may appeal by replying to our response.

Children

Sego is for adults 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18; if we learn we have, we delete it and close the account.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access is limited to people who need it to operate Sego. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects you we will notify you as the law requires.

Where Sego operates

Sego is available only in the United States and is operated from the State of Washington. We do not offer the service to residents of the European Union or United Kingdom.

Changes

We will post updates here and, for material changes, notify you in the app or by email.
